Current CADS production
Having just finished our run of the 2012 Royston Town Pantomime Knight Fever!, CADS is now taking a bit of a breather until some time in April, when we shall with luck be holding auditions for our next production, the rock'n'roll musical "Return to the Forbidden Planet" by Bob Carlton.
Inspired by the classic 1956 film "Forbidden Planet", itself based very loosely on Shakespeare's "The Tempest", this is a spectacular musical show featuring dozens of well known hit songs from the 1950s, '60s and '70s. Captain Tempest and the crew of his spaceship are on a routine survey mission when their craft is dragged off course to the mysterious planet of D'Illyria. Here they meet mad sceintist Dr Prospero, who has been marooned there with his daughter Miranda and the robot Ariel ever since his equally deranged wife Gloria sent them off in a rocket from Earth. Miranda falls for the Captain against her father's wishes but before either of them can reveal their true feelings, the ship is attacked by a monster, the dangerous truth about Prospero's secret experiments is discovered, and the Science Officer springs a surprise of her own on the whole crew.
And all of this (or very nearly all) in iambic pentameters!
"Planet" is to be co-directed by Louise Atkins and Alison Bass and will be the CADS contribution to the 2012 Royston Arts Festival in September. Exact details of auditions, rehearsals and so on have yet to be worked out, so do please keep checking this website and/or the local press for more information.
