There’s still time to book tickets for our comedy double bill, “Fakespeare”, which we’re performing at the brand-new Royston Venue in the Town Hall as part of (though slightly ahead of) this year’s Royston Arts Festival.
To remind you, we’ll be staging two one-act plays with Shakespearean connections – Ruby of Elsinore by Bruce Kane, and To be, or not to bother? by David Tristram – at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 17, Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September. Tickets are £15 each (£12 for seniors and full-time students) and can be booked online via this link or over the phone on 07856 599039.
Both plays then go on to the Cambridge Festival of Drama at the ADC Theatre on the following Thursday, 24 September. Tickets for that show are £10 and can be booked through the ADC website.

PANTO-A-GO-GO
Great news! We now have a plan for the 2027 Royston Town Pantomime! Patrick Key has stepped forward to make his debut as Director, and Louise Atkins has once again agreed to act as Musical Director. Their choice of script is another by the ever-reliable Warren McWilliams and this time it’s his take on Cinderella. Auditions for the principal roles in the show will take place on Thursday 1 October, at King James Academy Royston (exact location to be announced shortly) and there’ll be a read-through - once the panto has been cast - on the following Thursday 8 October. Auditions for the ensemble (adults and juniors) will follow – more details will be announced shortly…
A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM
The lovely people at the Royston Museum have asked CADS whether we can put on some sort of show for them on Friday 11 December. (We’ve performed there before a couple of times but not since their revamp.) They’ve suggested either some sort of Christmas playlet (or a rehearsed reading of a seasonal radio play), a cabaret-style evening of sketches, songs, readings and so on, or maybe even a mixture of both.
There’s a possible issue around the timing of this, as we should by then be well into panto rehearsals, but a rehearsed reading would at least not involve any additional line learning, and the cabaret items would be short and relatively easy to prepare.
We’re currently looking at plays and also at songs and sketches we might do, but if you have any suggestions or would like to be part of the ensemble, please get in touch with [email protected]
LOOK THE PART
We’ve had some recent requests for CADS-branded clothing items (several of us already have these from way back) and wonder whether anyone else out there would like to order a hoodie or a T-shirt. The ones we’ve ordered before look like those shown above.
Please get in touch with [email protected] if you’d like to discuss your requirements. Last time we ordered any, the hoodies cost around £15-£20 and the T-shirts around £7-£10 but we’d need to check current prices and those might depend on size and so on…
POTTERING ABOUT
Thursday 8 October has been designated Harry Potter Day, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter movie. Bow Books Kids, Royston’s independent children’s bookshop, would like to mark this with an event on Saturday 10 October and would welcome volunteers to come along on the day in costume. There will be some activities planned but in general you’d just need to be there and perhaps pose for selfies with the children.
