Pantomime 2014 update

Once again the 2014 CADS Pantomime was a critical and commercial success.  Well done to everyone involved in putting on Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood

Awards

At the last performance of the pantomime, we got to find out who were the worthy recipients of this year’s two CADS awards:

The Lizzie Houghton Award for Outstanding Contribution to Youth Performing Arts was awarded to Alex Crockford.  In his citation it was said of him “With his dedicated work ethic and sunny personality I am sure he will go far”, but as he’s only 16, hopefully, we can enjoy him being part of CADS for a couple more years yet.

And

The Fred Sillence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Adult Performing Arts was awarded to Wendy Watts.  In the citation it was said, “It is amazing that the name Wendy Watts had not already adorned this award.  It is there now!” It sure is Wendy!

Congratulations to them both.

DVDs

Ian Cowley has DVDs of two of the panto performances and Little Shop of Horrors.  If anyone missed seeing either show, possibly because they were in either of them, and would like to borrow the DVDs to view, please contact Ian directly.  His details are at the foot of this newsletter.

Programme donations

The surplus raised from pantomime programme donations will be forwarded to the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth in memory of Elaine Paton.

Royston Museum Project

This is well underway.  Here are the details:

Royston & District Museum and Art Gallery and CADS present
Royston 1914 - An evening of entertainment
7.30pm Fri. 28th Feb.
Tickets £5, Friends of Museum £4

Tickets are available from Royston Museum or by phoning 01763 242587.

Turn To Face the Change

We have a definite slot to perform Turn to Face the Change for the Sawston Festival on 20th March but have not yet heard back from Haverhill. We are hoping to bring it to a Royston audience along with other goodies later in the Spring.  We are pleased to add a new member to the cast; Nikki Crockford has agreed to step into the role of Kate, the protagonist’s lesbian assistant.  Welcome on board, Nikki.

Royston Arts Festival

Plans are afoot for the 2014 Royston Arts Festival which will run from 19 – 28 September.  The theme is Heroes and Villains and the CADS contribution will be The Fosdyke Saga by Alan Plater based on a strip cartoon by Bill Tidy.  It will be directed by Michael Young and performed on 25 – 27 September, 7.30pm, at Meridian School.  Dates for auditions and rehearsals will be announced nearer the time.

Ten Times Table

After a resounding success with Calendar Girls, The Settlement Players in Letchworth turn their attention to Alan Ayckbourn’s Ten Times Table starring CADS’ very own Claire Hogan. Performances are 20 – 22 February at 7.45pm. It sounds a hoot.  Tickets are available from David’s Music Shop in Letchworth.

Mayor’s Quiz winners

Congratulations to the team YABS, consisting of predominantly CADS members: The Youngs, the Atkins, the Basses and the Sassolis for winning the Mayor’s quiz on 7th February.

CADS AGM

The CADS Annual General Meeting will be on 8th April 7:30pm at Meridian in room B10.  Please enter the school through the doors by the gym and follow the signs.  Come and have your say in the future of the group and possibly even volunteer to be on the committee.

SUBS

Subs are now due.  They were actually due in January but here is a gentle reminder for anyone who forgot. They are £15 and £10 concessions.  This is not bad for a whole year including a free ticket to every production.
