Committee Minutes

As ever, the latest CADS committee meeting minutes are available on the Backstage area of the CADS website www.cadsroyston.org.uk .

AGM 2015

The 2015 CADS AGM will be held on Tuesday 14th April in the Oak Room at the Old Bull Inn, Royston.  The room is booked from 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

CADS as an organisation must hold AGMs and these meetings cannot be held without a minimum quorum attendance so do please come along if you can.  It’s a great chance to catch up with goings-on over the last year, find out about upcoming plans and vote in a new committee.

It is traditional for the entire committee to stand down and every post is then re-elected.  The committee looks after the month-to-month running of the group and helps to steer productions and offers support to the directors and producers of shows.  If you would like to stand for committee, you need no prior experience or longevity with the group, and you do not need to have been on the committee to stand for a named position.  The named positions are Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, with any number of ordinary members elected as necessary.

Annual Subscriptions

Annual subs are due each February 1st.  Annual subscriptions are £15 and concessions £10.  You must be a paid-up member to vote at the AGM or propose motions.

Pantomime report

Cinderella played out to appreciative audiences on 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st January, with over 1100 tickets sold!  CADS received a lot of excellent feedback from the audience, some of whom came from as far afield as Kent and France.  Many thanks are offered to the director Alison Bass, the musical director Louise Atkins and the technical director Rupert Jordan, and huge congratulations to the entire cast and crew for putting on an excellent show.

Play reading group

Michael Young has kindly organised a play reading group, and the first meeting will be Wednesday 11th February.  We have booked the Oak Room at the Old Bull Inn in Royston from 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Drinks can be bought from the bar and taken into the Oak Room.

We will be reading Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends. This is a free meeting, and all are welcome to attend, CADS members or not.

Drama Awards

On Saturday 24th January after the evening panto performance, CADS awarded the Fred Sillence award for outstanding contribution to the performing arts and the Lizzie Houghton award for outstanding contribution to youth drama.  Barabra Perry won the Fred Sillence award.  She has been a member of CADS for many years and always throws everything she has into her performances, often stealing the show.  The Lizzie Houghton award was won by Daniel Gee, who in the last year played a major part in the Fosdyke Saga and stepped in to play one of the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella when the original actor dropped out – not an easy task for an 18-year-old.  The Committee would like to extend their congratulations to both for their superb contributions.

Arts Festival ideas

As panto is now done and dusted, we are now looking forward to our next major production, for the Royston Arts Festival in September.  If you have any suggestions for the committee to consider, or would like to offer to direct or produce a show, please get in touch [email protected].  The Festival theme for 2015 is ‘Illumination’.

New website design

The CADS website www.cadsroyston.org.uk has been redesigned, with update and new Cast & Crew pages linking CADS members to the shows they’ve been in.  It’s inevitable that we’re missing some information – if you would like any information added then please do get in touch with the Secretary.
